Devi Fusion An Indian Feast

If you want to try Indian food that breaks away from the cookie-cutter mould, then Devi Fusion at Millennia Walk fits the bill. Serving a myriad of dishes, in a fusion of traditional Ayurvedic Indian science and complemented with Western sauces, the 130-seater restaurant has six branches in Tokyo , Japan . It has been in Singapore for only 3 years and has since proven to be a forerunner in providing a unique blend of north Indian taste.


Palming through the menu is an interesting experience in itself. Interspersed in the descriptions written in Mandarin and English are pictures of mouth-watering dishes which are bound to whet one’s appetite. Mr. Vinod, The F and B manager of Devi Fusion, explains that the idea of having visuals is to enable those who are not at home with the names of Indian dishes to feel more at ease. This has indeed proven a success in their foray into the Japanese market, which caters to people of all races. Likewise, it has also proven to be a winning combination with the international clientele, which frequent this restaurant.

  • The Vibe 
    In the midst of the hustle and bustle of up market Millennia Walk, the ambience at Devi Fusion seems to one of understated stylishness. The exterior of the restaurants sports canopied umbrella, shielding patrons from the harsh weathers while at the same time offering a breath of fresh air or even a lazy puff. Likewise, for a view of the various jazzy cars that may just whiz past, patrons can choose to seat themselves on the ‘high chairs’. If a cooler setting is more to your liking, then indoors with its cool green interior will at once imbue a sense of serenity.
  • The Food 
    To experience a fine blending of East meets West, try the Hari Makai ($12), a delicious concoction of chopped spinach cooked with mixed corn and cream. The latter, a house special beautifully complements the Nawabi Tarkari Biryani ($14), or fresh vegetables cooked with rice, cardamom and nutmeg, which is served in an earthen pot, covered with bread. For the health conscious, this platter is indeed heaven-sent for it not only whets one’s appetite with its light, piquant taste and fragrant aroma, there is also no hint of the usual oiliness which often accompanies this dish. The secret to this, according to Mr. Vinod, is that the biryani in Devi Fusion is cooked in the traditional way, in a tandoori oven.

    For the adventurous, then the Devi Malai Broccoli or broccoli stuffed with solidified milk and cashew nut paste is worth a try. Not only does it exude a fragrant smell, the artfully garnished dish cleverly camouflages the blandness of broccoli with a sweet sourish creamy after taste.

    For those craving for prawns, try the Jhinga Mehrunisa ($36) or tandoori prawns. Alternatively, the prawn malai curry ($32) or prawns cooked in curry is definitely one that will not singe your tongue and yet delivers a lip-smacking and pleasing sensation. Coupled with the various types of naans, you have a meal fit for even those with the most discerning taste. True to the nature of Indian food, the restaurant caters to the taste bud of its patron and will accommodate various tolerance of spiciness.

Walking into the restaurant is definitely synonymous with the intention to try Indian food with a twist. True to the nature of its names, the fusion concept permeates from food to its décor. In the background, the mellow sounds of classic Western music will serenade diners, while the bricks layout hints at the warmth of hearth in its country concept. The open concept kitchen allows patrons to glimpse into the chefs’ kitchen and if one is interested, an inkling of how one’s food is prepared. Food wise, the overall impression is one that aims to please. The portions served are generous and the service soliticious. Do note that however reservations is needed at least one day in advance if one wants to partake in the fare of either set meals or ala carte during their busy weekday lunch hours. For a more relaxed and less frenzied dining, try out this place during their extended dinner hour or weekends.
